PM Congratulates Angkor Warriors for Win Over Guam

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen has congratulated the Cambodian national football team on its victory over the United States' Guam in the 2023 Asian Football Championship playoff. The Cambodian team defeated the Matao 1-0 in the first leg of the game.

The Prime Minister wrote on his Facebook page, "I congratulate the Cambodian national team on its 1-0 victory over the United States in the first of their World Cup qualifiers for AFC Asian Cup China 2023 at Khalifa Sport City, Bahrain."

The Football Federation of Cambodia has broadcasted the game live for Cambodians to witness the game at 12:30 am on Sunday. The Prime Minister has pledged to give $100,000 to the Cambodian team if they will advance to the next round Asian Football Championship. 

The second round between Cambodia and Guam will take place in the same stadium in Bahrain on 12 October. The 2023 Asian Championships is the 18th edition of the Asian Championship for men's international football tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). China will host the event from 16 June to 16 July 2023.
